Review – Kelly Clarkson, “You Still Won’t Know”

Powerhouse Kelly Clarkson premiered her new single You Still Won’t Know at an intimate NYC gig earlier this week. As a huge Kelly fan, the song is a bit of a disappointment, especially after her high-energy album All I Ever Wanted.

The song, a country-esque power ballad, was written by Kelly and shows off her brassy lower register, a feature that is rarely heard in her voice. The song is reminiscent of 2006’s Breakaway, but lacks a hook and any catchiness. Lyrically though, the song is Grammy worthy and very moving; it discusses betrayed love much deeper than anything else Kelly has sang (except for maybe Already Gone). The song, and her delivery of it is quite boring, and I hope for catchier songs to come from Kelly in 2011.
