People’s Choice Awards Predictions!

This wednesday (Jan. 5) are the 37th Annual People’s Choice Awards. Queen Latifah is hosting the CBS aired event, and although the event may not make a huge impact on pop-culture it is a representation of what people think about artists in the industry. This early in the year it is important to tell where people’s minds are when it comes to purchasing music, and this is one of the few shows in which (obviously) the viewers vote.

We listed who we think will win, and we also listed who should win. Just for kicks who we voted for.

Favorite Song

Nominees:

  • Airplanes by B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams
  • California Gurls by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg
  • Love The Way You Lie by Eminem featuringRihanna
  • OMG, by Usher featuring will.i.am
  • Telephone by Lady Gaga featuring Beyoncé

Predictions:

Should Win: California Gurls by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg
Will Win: California Gurls by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg
Voted For: Love The Way You Lie by Eminem featuring Rihanna

Analysis:

First, lets note how music has changed because throughout the decade, all of these songs are collaborations, not a single solo act. The biggest song of this year was Ke$ha’s Tik Tok, but if that song is out of the way Katy Perry is a close #2. We voted for Love the Way You Lie because lyrically that song is FAR superior to any other in that category.

Favorite Music Video

Nominees:

  • Baby by Justin Bieber featuring Ludacris
  • Love the Way You Lie by Eminem featuringRihanna
  • Teenage Dream by Katy Perry
  • Telephone by Lady Gaga featuring Beyoncé
  • Waka Waka by Shakira featuring Freshlyground

Predictions:

Should Win: Telephone by Lady Gaga featuring Beyoncé
Will Win: Baby by Justin Beiber featuring Ludacris
Voted For: Telephone by Lady Gaga featuring Beyoncé

Analysis:

Lady Gaga’s Telephone was the year’s best video, period. BUT it is nearly impossible for Lady Gaga’s “little mosnters” to over-power Justin Beiber’s fanbase. Baby is the obvious prediction in this category. Shakira serves as the category’s long shot, but the other two nominees do have a chance at earning the award.

Favorite Male Artist

Nominees:

  • Eminem
  • Enrique Iglesias
  • Michael Bublé
  • Tim McGraw
  • Usher

Predictions:

Should Win: Eminem
Will Win: Eminem
Voted For: Eminem

Analysis:

No other nominee deserves (nor has a chance of winning) this category except for Eminem. Michael Bublé may come out of left field for the win, but it seems unlikely.

Favorite Female Artist

Nominees:

  • Carrie Underwood
  • Katy Perry
  • Lady Gaga
  • P!nk
  • Taylor Swift

Predictions:

Should Win: Katy Perry
Will Win: Lady Gaga
Voted For: Lady Gaga

Analysis:

Katy Perry dominated this year when it came to female singers, but Lady Gaga posseses a huge fan base that will ensure her winning. Lady Gaga is the industry’s best female artist, but this year was Katy Perry’s year. Taylor Swift’s fanbase could also takeover an allow a victory for the country star, and Carrie Underwood has had tremendous success at the PCA’s in the past. Although we love P!NK she has no chance against four of the biggest female singers in the industry.

Favorite Rock Band

Nominees:

  • Daughtry
  • Linkin Park
  • Maroon 5
  • Nickelback
  • Paramore

Predictions:

Should Win: None
Will Win: Paramore
Voted For: Daughtry

Analysis:

This year was not the year for the rock band, and these five were not the most successful of 2010. I would vote for Kings of Leon, Muse, or Florence + The Machine; even 30 Seconds to Mars could get my vote, but none of these bands had a successful 2010. That being said, since this is a fan voted show Paramore will win. We voted for Daughtry, because their song September was one of 2010’s most underrated songs.

Favorite Breakout Artist

Nominees:

  • B.o.B.
  • Bruno Mars
  • Justin Bieber
  • Ke$ha
  • Selena Gomez & the Scene

Predictions:

Should Win: Ke$ha
Will Win: Justin Beiber
Voted For: Ke$ha

Analysis:

Popularity wise, Ke$ha was 2010’s Best New Artist. She absolutely controlled every second of 2010, and released 2 hit albums. That being said, she has no chance of beating the fanbase of Justin Beiber (sorry K$). Unfortunately, Selena Gomez stands no chance because no teenage girl will vote for her over Justin Beiber…sorry. Bruno Mars could come out as the surprise in this category, but it is unlikely.

Favorite Pop Artist

Nominees:

  • Beyoncé
  • Katy Perry
  • Lady Gaga
  • Rihanna
  • P!nk

Predictions:

Should Win: Katy Perry
Will Win: Lady Gaga
Voted For: Rihanna

Analysis:

This is the only category of the night without a clear-cut winner, or even one or two favorites. Every single female in this category has a fanbase that will do anything for their favorite to win. My money is on Lady Gaga, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she lost. Katy Perry and Rihanna are the only artists who deserve to win in this category as they are the only artists to release a full-length album in 2010.

Favorite Country Artist

Nominees:

  • Carrie Underwood
  • Keith Urban
  • Lady Antebellum
  • Rascal Flatts
  • Taylor Swift

Predictions:

Should Win: Lady Antebellum
Will Win: Taylor Swift
Voted For: Carrie Underwood

Analysis:

Lady Antebellum had an amazing 2010; they are a country band who had one of the biggest pop hits of the year. Taylor Swift will win in this category though, I mean the girl sold 1 million copies of her album in one-week. She has fans. Carrie Underwood and Lady A could rain on Taylor’s parade, don’t write a song about it though, k Tay-Tay.

Favorite R&B Artist

Nominees:

  • Alicia Keys
  • Beyoncé
  • Mary J. Blige
  • Ne-Yo
  • Usher

Should Win: Alica Keys
Will Win: Beyonce
Voted For: Alica Keys

Favorite R&B Artist

Nominees:

  • Drake
  • Eminem
  • Jay-Z
  • Ludacris
  • Snoop Dogg

Should Win: Drake/Eminem
Will Win: Drake
Voted For: Eminem
