Former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland took a break from working on her still untitled third studio album to walk the red carpet on the Clive Davis’s Grammy Gala. She is working with David Guetta on the new album.
Rowland says that she is most excited to see Eminem at Sunday’s Grammy Ceremony because he has been “to there and back.”
What do You Think? Who Are You Excited To See?
The Grammy’s have been famous for creating a stage in which they know music lovers will be watching. Because of this artists will take advantage by creating the most outrageous and memorable performances they can. After looking at the finalized list of performances we compiled our list of the 5 performances you do want to see, and the 5 you don’t.
This year more than ever the Grammy’s went pop. Which makes this genré the most important of them all and will prove as the descision point for the Big Four categories. See what we pick, and comment below, who do you think will take home the pop trophies?
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
▪ “King of Anything” – Sara Bareilles
▪ “Halo” (Live) – Beyoncé
▪ “Chasing Pirates” – Norah Jones
▪ “Bad Romance” – Lady Gaga
▪ “Teenage Dream” – Katy Perry
Of the pop categories, this one had the weakest selection of all. Beyoncé’s Halo should not be eligible as it won this category last year, and Chasing Pirates is an obscure song both lyrically and melodically and failed to crack any pop chart this year. And isn’t that what Pop music stands for? Popular. On the contrary the other three nominees are all perfect picks for this year; King is a simple traditional pop song, Romance is a high production smash hit, and Teenage Dream is a fun, summer, song (and this is one of the few categories where that is acceptable).

Teenage Dream by Katy Perry has great production and a killer dance beat, perfect for a pop song.
Bad Romance was the biggest snub in both Record and Single of the Year the academy will likely award Gaga for her groundbreaking, heavy synth tune.
Best Male Pop Vocal Performance
▪ “Haven’t Met You Yet” – Michael Bublé
▪ “This Is It” – Michael Jackson
▪ “Whataya Want from Me” – Adam Lambert
▪ “Just the Way You Are” – Bruno Mars
▪ “Half of My Heart” – John Mayer

As projected 2010 had another music sales decline. This was driven by illegal downloads and peer-to-peer sharing.
The music industry was provided with one bright spot in 2010, from Rap. The genre which has in the past been driven by illegal downloads and mixtapes showed a 3% increase in 2010 reaching total sales of 27.3 million units. 3% increase in album sales is not something to brag about, but in a year where CD sales were down more than 20% it was a pleasant suprise to industry execs. Rap album sales have been on decline since 2005 where they sold 75.1 million units.
The genre was the home of the year’s top-selling album Eminem’s Recovery. The album, which was Eminem’s seventh sold 3.415 million copies. The other top rap sellers came from Drake’s Thank Me Later which sold 1.27 million copies. Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Lil Wayne’s Rebirth and I Am Not A Human Being each pushed more than 650,000 copies this year.
Another bright spot for the genre came from newcomer Nicki Minaj who sold nearly 400,000 copies of her album Pink Friday in November. The album has since been certified platnium.
This is really great! Congrats!

Both Eminem and Rihanna earned a myriad of honors at the 37th Annual People’s Choice Awards on January 5th. Eminem won four awards: Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Hip-Hop Artist, Favorite Song, and Favorite Music Video. The latter two awards were shared with Rihanna who also earned Favorite Pop Star at the show. The two are also side-by-side this week on the Billboard charts; Eminem is at #2 with Recovery while Rihanna resides at #3 with Loud. Neither artist attended the event.
Katy Perry won two awards for Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Web Celeb, she accepted her awards hinting at summer dates for her California Dreams Tour.
Usher, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Paramore each nabbed one award. Paramore did not attend the ceremony as their band is going through a rebuilding phase after losing two members last month. They are set to talk to MTV on Friday (Jan. 7) addressing the issue.
Also, Selena Gomez, who picked up Favorite New Artist performed her hit A Year Without Rain, at the show. The album of the same name is in stores now.
Suprising snubs, both Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber went home empty handed. Also suprising, Britney Spears lost in the Favorite TV Guest Star category. Tough Luck!

Taylor Swift will rule the Billboard 200 yet again this week according to projections from Hits Daily Double. The chart (which will be released offically tomorrow) says Swift will top the charts with her album Speak Now which sold nearly 75k units.
Eminem, who was rumored to lead the charts this week, will come in at #2 with 66k. Not far after that Rihanna will check in to #3 with Loud selling 65k. In Loud‘s premiere week on the charts it debuted at #3. Not far behind are Kanye West and Nicki Minaj who are both expected to sell around 62k, HDD has Kanye leading by 700 units, but they will be close.
This year is the one-year anniversary of Susan Boyle’s final week atop the charts with her album I Dreamed A Dream before Ke$ha knocked it out of the top spot with Animal. This week, Ke$ha is at #17 with Cannibal (30k) and Susan Boyle is at #39 with The Gift (15k)
Not bad for after Christmas sales? What CD Did U Pick Up This Week?
Eminem’s seventh studio album Recovery first topped the Billboard 200 in June, but it seems it may top the charts yet again. Hits DailyDouble is reporting that next weeks charts will be a toss-up between Eminem and current chart superior Taylor Swift. Neither of the releases for these album occured in December or November which shows that 2010 was owned by a few Blockbuster albums rather than many that sold above-average.
Next week’s album charts will be driven by iTunes and other music stores giftcards. The teen market will be in demand, so it is projected that Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Kanye West will occupy spots #3-5 on the albums charts; Bruno Mars and Katy Perry are also expected to rank in high positions.
What do you think? What did you buy with your giftcards?
