Grammy Predictions – Dance Categories

Dance music make a triumphant return; whether you attribute that to Lady Gaga or all the house music played on Jersey Shore is up to you. We made are picks, check ’em out and tell us what you think.

Best Dance Recording

▪ “Rocket” – Goldfrapp
▪ “In for the Kill” – La Roux
▪ “Dance in the Dark” – Lady Gaga
▪ “Only Girl (In the World)” – Rihanna
▪ “Dancing on My Own” – Robyn

ANALYSIS:

In what will most likely be the most exciting category of the night it seems as though Electronic artist Goldfrapp stands no chance; the category will most likely go down to the other four divas. La Roux’s In For The Kill is lacking without the Kanye West verse he added on the remix, and Lady Gaga’s Dance in the Dark was praised in reviews of her album The Fame Monster last year, but the song lacks the popularity for Academy members to select it. The category will most likely come down to the commerical pick (Rihanna) and the indie fav (Robyn).

Grammy Predictions – Pop Categories

This year more than ever the Grammy’s went pop. Which makes this genré the most important of them all and will prove as the descision point for the Big Four categories. See what we pick, and comment below, who do you think will take home the pop trophies?

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance

▪ “King of Anything” – Sara Bareilles
▪ “Halo” (Live) – Beyoncé
▪ “Chasing Pirates” – Norah Jones
▪ “Bad Romance” – Lady Gaga
▪ “Teenage Dream” – Katy Perry

ANALYSIS:

Of the pop categories, this one had the weakest selection of all. Beyoncé’s Halo should not be eligible as it won this category last year, and Chasing Pirates is an obscure song both lyrically and melodically and failed to crack any pop chart this year. And isn’t that what Pop music stands for? Popular. On the contrary the other three nominees are all perfect picks for this year; King is a simple traditional pop song, Romance is a high production smash hit, and Teenage Dream is a fun, summer, song (and this is one of the few categories where that is acceptable).

OUR FAVORITE:

Teenage Dream by Katy Perry has great production and a killer dance beat, perfect for a pop song.

OUR PICK:

Bad Romance was the biggest snub in both Record and Single of the Year the academy will likely award Gaga for her groundbreaking, heavy synth tune.

Best Male Pop Vocal Performance

▪ “Haven’t Met You Yet” – Michael Bublé
▪ “This Is It” – Michael Jackson
▪ “Whataya Want from Me” – Adam Lambert
▪ “Just the Way You Are” – Bruno Mars
▪ “Half of My Heart” – John Mayer

Eminem and Rihanna Big Winners at PCAs!

Both Eminem and Rihanna earned a myriad of honors at the 37th Annual People’s Choice Awards on January 5th. Eminem won four awards: Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Hip-Hop Artist, Favorite Song, and Favorite Music Video. The latter two awards were shared with Rihanna who also earned Favorite Pop Star at the show. The two are also side-by-side this week on the Billboard charts; Eminem is at #2 with Recovery while Rihanna resides at #3 with Loud. Neither artist attended the event.

Katy Perry won two awards for Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Web Celeb, she accepted her awards hinting at summer dates for her California Dreams Tour.

Usher, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Paramore each nabbed one award. Paramore did not attend the ceremony as their band is going through a rebuilding phase after losing two members last month. They are set to talk to MTV on Friday (Jan. 7) addressing the issue.

Also, Selena Gomez, who picked up Favorite New Artist performed her hit A Year Without Rain, at the show. The album of the same name is in stores now.

Suprising snubs, both Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber went home empty handed. Also suprising, Britney Spears lost in the Favorite TV Guest Star category. Tough Luck!

What did you think of the People’s Choice Awards!

Katy Perry wins Favorite Female Artist!

As predicted a very purple Katy Perry picked up “Favorite Female Artist” and “Favorite Web Celeb” at the People’s Choice Awards. The award was aided by her 3 #1 singles from her album Teenage Dream.

The diva was up against fierce competition that included Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift.

Perry left the stage saying that we can see her on her “California Dreams” Tour this summer. Offical dates have yet to be announced.

What do you think? Were you happy to see Katy win?
