Review – Britney Spears, “Hold It Against Me”

The demo for Britney Spears’ new song Hold it Against Me from her seventh-studio album due in March leaked last week. Unfortunately, the demo is not performed by Spears, but by singer/songwriter Bonnie McKee (who sounds a lot like Ke$ha).

The demo is amazing, even if Bonnie McKee released this song it could be a top 10 hit, but with Britney on the track it’ll be her next big hit. The song has an incredible hook, and will most certainly be a hit with clubs. The song has all the makings of a standard Britney song, good verses that do not take much talent to sing, but are incredible anyway. We cannot wait.

Katy Returns to the Top of the Billboard Hot 100

After taking a week off letting Bruno Mars stay atop the Billboard Hot 100 Katy Perry’s Firework returns to the top. This is the fourth non-consecutive week this song has been atop the chart. Last year, Perry stayed at #1 for 6 weeks with California Gurls and an additional 2 weeks with Teenage Dream.

Last week’s chart victor Bruno Mars’s Grenade fell to #2 on the chart, and Ke$ha’s We R Who We R hung on to #3.

At last night’s People’s Choice Awards Katy Perry picked up the awards for “Favorite Female Singer” and “Favorite Web Celeb”

Congrats!

Miranda Cosgrove – “Dancing Crazy”

We LOVE Miranda Cosgrove! She acts her age, is hillarious, and makes fun music. After releasing the pop princess’ smash debut Sparks Fly last Spring Cosgrove is prepping the release of her second album. She premiered her first single Dancing Crazy and it is amazing! Its fun and we cannot wait for her record. The song is very Miley (circa 7 Things) a little Ke$ha for the auto-tuned chorus and she sounds exactly like Taylor Swift at the bridge, and we love it!

Can’t wait for the new album!

What do you think do you like Dancing Crazy?

Eminem vs Taylor Swift: The Numbers Are In!

Taylor Swift will rule the Billboard 200 yet again this week according to projections from Hits Daily Double. The chart (which will be released offically tomorrow) says Swift will top the charts with her album Speak Now which sold nearly 75k units.

Eminem, who was rumored to lead the charts this week, will come in at #2 with 66k. Not far after that Rihanna will check in to #3 with Loud selling 65k. In Loud‘s premiere week on the charts it debuted at #3. Not far behind are Kanye West and Nicki Minaj who are both expected to sell around 62k, HDD has Kanye leading by 700 units, but they will be close.

This year is the one-year anniversary of Susan Boyle’s final week atop the charts with her album I Dreamed A Dream before Ke$ha knocked it out of the top spot with Animal. This week, Ke$ha is at #17 with Cannibal (30k) and Susan Boyle is at #39 with The Gift (15k)

Not bad for after Christmas sales? What CD Did U Pick Up This Week?

People’s Choice Awards Predictions!

This wednesday (Jan. 5) are the 37th Annual People’s Choice Awards. Queen Latifah is hosting the CBS aired event, and although the event may not make a huge impact on pop-culture it is a representation of what people think about artists in the industry. This early in the year it is important to tell where people’s minds are when it comes to purchasing music, and this is one of the few shows in which (obviously) the viewers vote.

We listed who we think will win, and we also listed who should win. Just for kicks who we voted for.

Favorite Song

Nominees:

  • Airplanes by B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams
  • California Gurls by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg
  • Love The Way You Lie by Eminem featuringRihanna
  • OMG, by Usher featuring will.i.am
  • Telephone by Lady Gaga featuring Beyoncé

Predictions:

Should Win: California Gurls by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg
Will Win: California Gurls by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg
Voted For: Love The Way You Lie by Eminem featuring Rihanna

Analysis:

First, lets note how music has changed because throughout the decade, all of these songs are collaborations, not a single solo act. The biggest song of this year was Ke$ha’s Tik Tok, but if that song is out of the way Katy Perry is a close #2. We voted for Love the Way You Lie because lyrically that song is FAR superior to any other in that category.

Lady Gaga has years Top-Selling Album

image

Lady Gaga had 2010s top-selling album internationally with The Fame Monster. The eight track EP which was released in November 2009 sold over 5.8 million copies worldwide. WOW!
Also appearing in the top 10 are Justin Beiber, Taylor Swift, Susan Boyle and Alica Keys.
Take That, Rihanna, Florence and the Machine, and Ke$ha were in the Top 40:
Congrats!

Ke$ha hints at future collaborators.

Ke$ha’s collaborators have been limited to 3OH!3, Flo Rida, and Taio Cruz, but in a recent interview Ke$ha names a few more. When asked about collaborators Ke$ha said she would love to work with her tour mate Rihanna, she thinks that when she first started recording music she never saw herself working with someone like Rihanna, but now the pair are good friends.

There was one name that was instantly thwarted from the list, when Lil’ Kim was mentioned Ke$ha responded saying she would rather work with Nicki Minaj, harsh. Ke$ha also hinted at one more act when interviewers were suggesting acts Ke$ha said:

That’d be cool, but you know who’d be cooler, B.o.B.

Now that is a collaboration I would like to see, what do you think who should Ke$ha work with next.

Ke$ha – 10 Game Changing Artists of 2010

Starting January 5, Ke$ha owned 2010, that was the day her debut album Animal was released. The album which would shoot right to number 1 on the Billboard 200 would spring 4 top-ten singles, including TiK ToK, the party girl’s ode to Mick Jagger and P. Diddy. To date, the album has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide and gave Ke$ha 3 American Music Awards and 3 Video Music Award nominations.

Of course the year would not come without controversy. The artist was constantly criticized by bloggers and music-critics alike for her auto-tuned aided singles which made others question her true talent (See: American Idol Performance). Music Fans were shocked when Ke$ha was snubbed by the Recording Academy, who failed to provide her with a single Grammy nomination, including Best New Artist, in which she was easily eligable.

Ke$ha ended the year with her a la Lady Gaga EP/re-release entitled Cannibal which included We R Who We R, the 17th song in history to debut at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This past summer, Ke$ha also toured alongside Rihanna on the Last Girl On Earth Tour. Ke$ha plans to embark on her first solo tour The Get $leazy Tour later this year.

Ke$ha, 2010 would not have been the same without you.
